Course Overview

The building envelope will outlive all other building systems, so it’s critical that it is designed and built to code. Crushing the Code NYS: Commercial Envelope prepares building and design professionals in New York State to comply with the commercial envelope requirements in the 2020 Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State (ECCCNYS).

In this session, students will examine what makes a building envelope code compliant under the 2020 ECCCNYS commercial provisions.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this 2-hour course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how to identify the building thermal envelope and the different components that impact code compliance.
  • Recognize the importance of the air barrier and the latest industry strategies to create a tight building envelope for improved efficiency and occupant comfort.
  • Describe the ways that heat flows through the building envelope and learn how to find or calculate the needed thermal resistance for code compliance.
  • Explain code criteria that limits energy losses from windows.

Who is this for?

This training is recommended for architects, engineers, code enforcement officials, contractors, building owners and operators and students working towards a career in the building industry. Learn more about the Energy Code and if this training is right for you.

How it works

Each Crushing the Code training is live, taught remotely on Zoom, and led by a certified instructor with more than seven years of professional experience. Register for an upcoming class and put your energy code confusion to rest!

If you have previously taken an 8-hour Crushing the Code NYS training, this 2-hour training contains similar content, reformatted into a shorter module.
