Low-carbon, energy-efficient construction will play a critical role in meeting increasingly stringent local and national building performance goals. These projects will require an understanding of new technologies, processes, and improved coordination across disciplines.

GPRO Construction Management provides practitioners with sustainability best practices and actionable strategies for every phase of construction, as well as how to avoid common mistakes.

This course is ideal for a range of construction professionals, including:

Participants take a one-day classroom training (in person or virtually) and then finish GPRO CM by completing three online electives that are most relevant to their work. Taught by highly knowledgeable industry professionals, participants will leave the course with practical steps to direct and manage  successful, sustainable, and cost-effective projects.

AFTER THIS COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • Explain the key coordination issues and documentation requirements that are unique to high- performance construction at each stage of a project.
  • Describe responsibilities of the CM and project team to ensure building performance.
  • Implement sustainable construction processes and communicate required information to subcontractors and trades.
  • Coordinate testing, inspection, and commissioning activities to ensure intended performance.

Oliver Holmes, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Oliver Holmes is a mechanical engineer, licensed professional engineer and LEED AP. Oliver has worked in building design, construction and operation at Rensselaer and Williams College, helping to reduce energy consumption by 15% and water usage by 50%. With his passion for sustainability, Oliver has taught as an adjunct faculty member for 20 years, and delivered Urban Green Council courses for eight years.

GPRO Operations & Maintenance Essentials (O&M) provides building professionals with strategies to reduce energy use while improving tenant comfort and health. Participants leave with at least three immediately actionable measures and the next steps needed to achieve them.

This four-day online course is ideal for property managers and building staff in both residential and high-rise commercial buildings, including: building superintendents, operators, facility and property managers, operating engineers and stationary engineers.

Frank Mruk is an architect and strategist. He is a founder and executive director of the Center for Strategic Innovation and the Center for Smart Building Technology. He was educated at Pratt Institute, Pace University and at the University of Oxford. He has taught Architecture at the School of Visual Arts, the Rhode Island School of Design, Roger Williams University, the Parsons School of Design, New York University, and at the New York Institute of Technology where he served as associate dean for the School of Architecture and Design. He spent 10 years working on Wall Street for American International Group and Morgan Stanley, and in professional practice for the Aga Kahn AKAA winning Architect Emre Arolat and William Breger, past Dean of the New York School of Interior Design. He has consulted for the Rhode Island Office of Innovation with Apple Computer and Goldman Sachs. He has served on the board of the American Institute of Architects, the Association for Strategic Planning, RIBA USA and Habitats for Music. WHAT STUDENTS LEARN:

  • Take a systemic approach to operating and maintaining a building.

  • Evaluate building performance.

  • Identify at least three immediately actionable measures that will improve building health, energy or water efficiency of your building and the next steps needed to achieve them.

  • Explain the costs and benefits of those measures.

NEW: Registration includes access to 5 on-demand bonus classes for a deeper dive into cutting edge O&M topics like Local Law 97, green procurement, waste management, energy audits, and financing energy upgrades.

Registration also includes a course e-book and the online exam session. Students who pass the exam with an 80% or higher become a GPRO Certificate Holder.

Low-carbon, energy-efficient construction will play a critical role in meeting increasingly stringent local and national building performance goals. These projects will require an understanding of new technologies, processes, and improved coordination across disciplines.

GPRO Construction Management provides practitioners with sustainability best practices and actionable strategies for every phase of construction, as well as how to avoid common mistakes.

This course is ideal for a range of construction professionals, including:

Participants take a one-day classroom training (in person or virtually) and then finish GPRO CM by completing three online electives that are most relevant to their work. Taught by highly knowledgeable industry professionals, participants will leave the course with practical steps to direct and manage  successful, sustainable, and cost-effective projects.

AFTER THIS COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • Explain the key coordination issues and documentation requirements that are unique to high- performance construction at each stage of a project.
  • Describe responsibilities of the CM and project team to ensure building performance.
  • Implement sustainable construction processes and communicate required information to subcontractors and trades.
  • Coordinate testing, inspection, and commissioning activities to ensure intended performance.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • GPRO CM qualifies for 7 CEU’s for PDH, AIA, and GBCI. Three electives are required and will be online self-paced trainings that will vary in length (about 30- 60 minutes each) and range in credits - more details on this coming soon.

The training program must include a combination of rigorous clean energy education with hands-on technical training.
