Thanks to funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Urban Green is able to offer subsidized training. Our energy code training is free for all New Yorkers and our Heat Pump Water Heating training is free for participating Local Unions.
Free registration is available for individuals who live in designated NYSERDA’s designated Disadvantaged Communities or qualify as a member of a NYSERDA Priority Population for the following trainings:

How do we reduce building energy use while improving tenant comfort and health? Join a GPRO Operations & Maintenance Essentials training to find out and earn your GPRO Certificate! You’ll learn how to operate your building better and leave class with actionable strategies that are specific to your building.

Disadvantaged Communities
Disadvantaged Communities meet the criteria established under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. View this map with address lookup function to see if your address is located within a disadvantaged community.
Priority Populations include:
- Veterans
- Individuals with disabilities
- Low-income individuals, whose household’s total income is below or at 60% of the State Median Income, or whose household has been determined eligible for or is receiving assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or other human service benefit programs
- Incumbent or unemployed fossil fuel workers
- Previously incarcerated individuals
- 16- to 24-year-olds who are enrolled in or have completed a comprehensive work preparedness training program such as those offered by Boards of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES), technical high schools, Conservation Corps, YouthBuild, and AmeriCorps. The training program must include a combination of rigorous clean energy education with hands-on technical training. Eligibility of work preparedness programs under this category will be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Homeless individuals
- Single Parents
