Sims Municipal Recycling (SMR) is the cornerstone of the New York City curbside recycling program. SMR processes 100 percent of the metal, glass and plastic collected by the New York City Sanitation Department throughout the city’s five boroughs. In 2013, SMR opened its state-of-the-art materials recovery facility in Brooklyn, which processes the largest volume of metal, glass and plastic in North America.
This online guided tour of the facility includes videos, photos and graphics revealing how recycling works in NYC. Attendees will see how Sims Municipal Recycling sorts 1,000 tons of residential recycling each day, preparing the recyclables for sale and manufacture into new products. The session will also includes a Q&A session.
