Come join the Urban Green Emerging Professionals Committee for a walking tour of Hunter’s Point Parks Conservatory (HPPC). HPPC was created in 2013 with a mission to enhance and advocate for the green spaces and waterfront of Long Island City, Queens, and to ensure the parks remain an indispensable asset to the community. HPPC’s commitment to sustainability is exemplified through several notable efforts, among which its prioritization of native plantings in landscaping, as well as the preservation of wildlife habitat.

In addition, the Conservatory has incorporated the highest standards and best practices of sustainable design through material selection and waste management, among others. The extensive landscaping and up-keep to protect HPPC’s natural beauty against the increase of commercial and residential buildings is no small feat! The walking tour starts at Gantry Plaza and will continue along the waterfront which features HPPC’s tidal marshes, native vegetation, bioswales, and “rip-rap”. Come along to see the progress first-hand.
