Two of the biggest challenges in decarbonizing New York City's buildings are the poor condition of the city’s decades-old building stock and the need for affordable retrofitting and development. To tackle these, RiseBoro Community Partnership pioneered the Casa Pasiva Project to bring nine buildings in their affordable housing portfolio to Passive House standards—improving tenant quality of life, reducing utility costs and benefiting the planet.
To see their sustainable building methods firsthand, join Ryan Cassidy, Director of Sustainability and Construction at RiseBoro, on a tour of the 14-unit retrofit, originally built in 1931. You'll get an up-close look at the ongoing construction and learn about the improvements that aim to reduce energy usage by 60 - 80 percent.
As this is an active construction site, all tour participants are required to wear the following:
- Sneakers or work boots
- Long pants and long sleeves
