Energy Code Training Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! All students will receive a digital certificate of completion via email within 48 hours of attending the training.

GBCI: Non-LEED specific; you can self report using the course number listed on your certificate of completion.

AIA LU/HSW Hours: Please submit your AIA member number at registration or email your number to education@urbangreencouncil.org. Our team will report your AIA credits on your behalf within 48 hours of class. Credits may take 1-2 days to show up on your account after they are reported. 

PDH: We are an approved sponsor of continuing education for NYS professional engineers through AIA. Learn more here. Please retain your certificate of completion to report to the state if audited. 

NY Registered Architect, not AIA member: You can use your certificate of completion as proof of attendance if audited by the state.

All energy code trainings are free, thanks to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)!

If you are unable to attend or miss your scheduled course date, sign up for a future Energy Code class through our website or by emailing education@urbangreencouncil.org.

Private classes are available for groups of 15 or more and can be scheduled to fit your team’s needs – we can set up a Zoom session, send an instructor to your office or host your group in our training room at 39 Broadway. Please reach out to education@urbangreencouncil.org or fill out this interest form.

This training is funded by the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA). Urban Green Council currently has funding for NYS energy code (ECCCNYS-2025) and will keep you updated if NYC energy code training (NYCECC-2025) is available.

• What’s New in the NYS Energy Code
  No, this training covers what specifically changed in the 2025 update to the NYS Energy Code (ECCCNYS-2025) — including new provisions, updated compliance paths and testing/inspection changes introduced in this cycle. Since NYC follows its own energy code (NYCECC-2025), these specific changes won’t carry over. 
  
  
• Energy Code 101
  Yes, this is an introductory, concept-level training — how energy codes are structured, why they exist and how compliance pathways and system interdependencies (envelope, mechanical, hot water, lighting) work. NYC’s energy code shares that same underlying framework. The specific code sections and citations covered in class may be different. If you are new to energy codes in general this training will provide useful foundational concepts and help you navigate the NYC energy code.
  
  
• How to Demonstrate Energy Code Compliance
  Yes, this training focuses on the process of demonstrating compliance — including stakeholder responsibilities, required documentation, testing, inspections and commissioning — rather than the specifics of any one code. The training includes best practices that will be useful for complying with any energy code.
