Greening the grid

Greening the grid

New York State’s nation-leading climate targets require an unprecented greening of state’s electric grid over the next two decades.

New York’s electricity is generated almost entirely by burning fossil fuels. This was exacerbated in 2021, when New York’s last nuclear power plant, Indian Point, shut down. If NYC’s buildings are going to meet the carbon caps set by Local Law 97, we’ll need to replace fossil fuel generation with renewable energy sources.

Urban Green is working to bring the challenge of greening the grid front and center. Explore our range of resources to better understand our changing grid.
