On January 18, we welcomed NYSERDA President and CEO Doreen Harris and Vice President for Strategy and Market Development Janet Joseph. In this episode, Doreen, Janet and John discussed New York's 2022 climate agenda and what it means for New Yorkers.

Doreen M. Harris was appointed president and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on April 7, 2021. Prior to becoming president, Ms. Harris served as acting president and CEO since June 2020. Ms. Harris has held public and private sector leadership roles advancing clean energy projects and engineering companies for more than 20 years. During her tenure at NYSERDA, she has held executive, technical, and policy positions, including Vice President of Large-Scale Renewables. Ms. Harris has overseen the State’s nation-leading advancement of renewable resources under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act and Clean Energy Standard. Ms. Harris has also spearheaded the strategic development of New York’s offshore wind resource, including the execution of the State’s offshore wind master plan. She was also instrumental in advancing and implementing the Accelerated Renewable Energy Growth and Community Benefit Act, which will modernize the siting of large-scale renewable energy projects across New York.

Janet Joseph leads NYSERDA’s work in building decarbonization, advancing programs and policies to deliver a carbon-neutral building stock. Ms. Joseph has been working on clean energy and climate change for more than three decades. She has held technical, policy and leadership positions at NYSERDA, where she has spearheaded initiatives in green buildings, solar and renewable power, cleantech incubators, energy storage, and greenhouse gas reduction strategies that provide benefits for New Yorkers. Prior to joining NYSERDA, Janet was a research scientist at Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratory and a consultant for Booz-Allen and Hamilton in Washington, D.C. Ms. Joseph serves on the Boards of the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships, Urban Green, , and the Urban Futures Lab. Janet received the 2015 Public Service Excellence Award from the State Academy for Public Administration, and was voted as one of the top ten Clean Tech leaders in New York.

John Mandyck joined Urban Green Council in 2018 as its first-ever CEO. He capped a 25-year career as Chief Sustainability Officer for United Technologies Corporation, a Fortune 45 global leader in the building, aerospace and food refrigeration industries. He also serves as a Visiting Scientist at the Harvard University T.H. Chan School of Public Health and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Business. John is the founding chair of the Corporate Advisory Board for the World Green Building Council, a former board chair of Urban Green, and co-author of the book Food Foolish.
