GLOBAL EXCHANGES: A TALE OF TWO RETROFIT POLICIES

To tackle climate change, the United Kingdom and New York City have implemented ambitious policies to reduce building energy use and encourage retrofits.

The United Kingdom has world-leading legislation that requires all privately leased properties to meet energy efficiency standards before they can be rented. And New York City just passed a law that sets tough carbon emission limits for large buildings.

As part of our new Global Exchanges series, our second webinar with the United Kingdom Green Building Council (UKGBC) will delve into the two policies and how we can learn from each other going forward. Find out more on our blog and register for the webinar on May 30. And don’t miss the first one on Energy Codes tomorrow morning!

BUILDING EMISSIONS LAW: QUESTIONS ANSWERED

NYC's recently passed building emissions law, now officially Local Law 97 of 2019, has triggered countless questions, such as:

"How will the law affect Affordable Housing?"

The law was designed to protect affordable housing, and includes different requirements for many types of affordable or income-limited housing. For example, buildings with rent-regulated units and certain types of low-income and subsidized housing are not subject to emissions limits. Instead, these buildings are required to implement a prescriptive package of energy savings measures listed in section 28-321.2.2 of the law.
