ADVANCING ELECTRIFICATION UPDATE

The electrification of heating systems is critical to the city’s 80x50 goal because it will help buildings reduce carbon emissions. Our Advancing Electrification project is tackling this topic head-on as we develop a roadmap for scaling heat pumps in NYC’s large multifamily buildings.

Last month, Urban Green convened the Advancing Electrification Advisory Committee to look at whether heat pumps can effectively heat these buildings, given their limited insulation and electrical capacity. Advisors are also exploring methods and products that could potentially recover heat from waste water to produce domestic hot water.

The committee will continue to meet this summer as we begin to build a roadmap to electrification.
