Last week, the New York City Council introduced six bills aimed at improving energy efficiency, encouraging more solar energy, and improving the city’s planning and permitting processes.
Of particular interest are the two energy efficiency ordinances, Int. 1629 and Int. 1632. The first would require markedly more stringent energy codes for new buildings and new construction. The second would require buildings to publicly post an energy grade, and disclose the rating to potential buyers and tenants.
Finalizing the details will require lots of discussion and collaboration with industry. But with these Intros, the Council has signaled an interest in legislating on these important topics. Stay tuned!
