IS ELECTRIFICATION JUST AN ELECTRI-FICTION?

Our 2017 Conference examined whether electrification might be a part of NYC's path to 80x50. The first session, Electrifying the Building Industry, focused primarily on the grid. Panelists ultimately agreed that NYC ought to adopt a "no regrets" strategy, moving forward with practices that would leave the city no worse off. But there was dissent as to whether electrification fell into that category.

If you weren't able to join us or would just like to revisit the conversation, visit our blog to read more about the if, when and how of electrification. And, keep an eye out—we'll be recaping the second session, Transforming Building Systems, next week.

DRYWALL: CLOSING THE LOOP

When it comes to construction waste management, drywall is one of the largest areas for improvement: While up to 20 percent of the construction waste on an NYC job site is gypsum wallboard, only 5 percent is consistenly diverted.

Luckily, waste management experts have been piloting closed loop drywall recycling programs to help increase diversion in the city. Join these experts on October 18 at Closed Loop Drywall Recycling, as they share perspectives for both existing building renovation and new construction projects.
