$20B BUILDING ENERGY RETROFIT MARKET

To comply with Local Law 97, almost 50,000 buildings will have to retrofit in 10 years. Yesterday, we heard from experts at our sold-out conference that although it’s possible, it’s not going to be easy—or cheap. (Stay tuned for our full conference recap and video.)

If all buildings choose efficiency to comply with LL97, we estimate a $20B retrofit market opportunity over the next 10 years.

Our CEO John Mandyck discusses the findings on our blog.

NEW YORK TO PASS NATION-LEADING CLIMATE LAW

New York State is about to pass the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, which mandates an 85 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with a plan to reach net-zero emissions statewide through carbon offsets.

Billed as NY’s Green New Deal, the Act aggressively ramps up clean power: electricity must be 70 percent renewable statewide by 2030 and carbon-free by 2040. The law also prioritizes equity, directing 35 percent of clean energy funding benefits to disadvantaged communities.

For more detail on this historic step, see the legislation here.
