Gingerbread House

This event is co-sponsored by New York Passive House

Come to our first Gingerbread Passive House competition and show off your building skills! Urban Green Council and New York Passive House members are encouraged to form teams to create the ultimate passive house structure… made of gingerbread. Illustrate Passive House principles using only edible materials typically used in gingerbread houses (think: spreadable marshmallow as insulation). This will be a fun event whether you are a Passive House (or gingerbread house) expert or novice.

How will this work?

  • Teams (maximum of four people) will be provided with a basic gingerbread house kit to build a gingerbread house with visible passive house details.
  • Each team will be given 30 minutes to complete their designs and 5 minutes to explain their approach. Of course, a gingerbread house will not pass a blower door test, but it will be expected to avoid thermal bridges!
  • Points will be awarded for accuracy, creativity, and presentation. Participants are encouraged to bring their leftover candies and other edible gingerbread-making components.

Who can participate?

Anyone who would like to test their gingerbread-passive-house building skills!

If your team is already assembled, please contact Kaitlin Logsdon at kl@urbangreencouncil.org.

Food (in addition to gingerbread) and beverages will be available.

GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE: DESIGNING THE FUTURE OF RESILIENCE

CitiesAlive provides green infrastructure solutions to urban challenges by bringing together designers, researchers, contractors, manufacturers, and policymakers. Discover how to shape a healthier, more resilient future in NYC this September.

Their 2018 conference will explore how we can shape a healthier, more resilient future in NYC. Over 80 expert speakers will explore topics like flood management, biodiversity, biophilic design, urban agriculture, vertical forests, coastal greening, green finance, new performance metrics, advancements in policy and new research findings.
