12-17-09: 2010 Expo Dates Announced

December 17, 2009

2010 Expo Dates Announced

Urban Green Council will hold the next Urban Green Expo, the Northeast region’s premier green building conference and trade show, on September 29th and 30th, 2010.

Urban Green Expo 2009 brought nationally recognized speakers like Amory Lovins to New York and energized the green building community despite a tough economic climate. One of the many reasons for our success in 2009 was our focus on issues specifically relevant to urban building communities. We continue this tradition of dedicated focus with the 2010 theme: Pushing the Envelope. Building enclosures are perhaps the most critical, and an often overlooked, component in successful green buildings. Urban Green Expo 2010 educational sessions will explore a wide range of topics; from the broad performance issues of various envelope systems, to the application of passive shading systems in existing buildings, to technical subjects like thermal bridging and European standards like Passivhaus. Learn more about Expo 2010 or to find out how you can get involved, contact us at expo@urbangreencouncil.org.

Last Chance for 2009 Membership Rates

Membership rates will be going up in 2010. Join or Renew or give a Gift Membership to your greenest friend or colleague today at 2009 rates. Individuals who become members now will enjoy new 2010 member benefits that will be announced before the end of the year. Members may also vote in this year's Board Elections. If you are uncertain of your membership status, please contact Ben Weber at membership@urbangreencouncil.org.

LEED Professionals: Tell Us What You Need

If you enroll in GBCI’s CMP Program before December 31st, you can count all CMP activities completed since July 8, 2009 (including educational sessions at Urban Green Expo 2009!). See full details here.

If you have questions about LEED exams, credentialing or continuing education requirements, please see our new LEED Credentialing FAQ page.

Energy Code Changes: What the Design Team Needs to Know
January 5th - 20th at Alexander Hamilton US Custom House

The NYC Department of Buildings now requires that all projects submitted for approval include calculations to demonstrate compliance with the NYS Energy Code. At the request of the New York City Department of Buildings the AIA New York Chapter, ASHRAE-NY and Urban Green Council have assembled a group of speakers to disseminate their knowledge and understanding of the NYS Energy Code and to make clear the Energy Code submittal requirements for all projects in NYC. These sessions will take place over 5 evenings in January. Details here.
AIA Continuing Education Credit: HSW/SD 1.5 each session (AIA credits may also be used by NY State Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors)

Urban Green Council Seeking Event Space!
Urban Green Council relies on donated event space to host a wide range of high-caliber public programs. We are currently seeking centrally-located spaces in New York City. Ideal spaces will have their own A/V equipment (projector, etc.) and capacity for 50 or more seated people. Donating your space is a great way to associate your company name with Urban Green and to bring the green building community into your office or showroom. If your company has a space that fits the description above that you'd like to donate it for an Urban Green event, contact us at events@urbangreencouncil.org.
