
On October 27th, Urban Green Council and The New York Academy of Sciences presents Dr. Eric W. Sanderson, author of Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City and Charles C. Mann, author of 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus, for a moderated discussion on the landscape of New York City prior to European settlement. The authors will open with a short presentation and lead into a broad ranging discussion of the human and environmental history of our region, including the import of this knowledge on the sustainable use of our region’s resources.

Tour: Brooklyn Bridge Park October 14th at Fulton Ferry Landing in Brooklyn
Join the landscape architects of Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc. on a tour of what will be the 85-acre Brooklyn Bridge Park that will stretch approximately 1.3 miles along the East River from Atlantic Avenue to Jay Street south of the Manhattan Bridge, transforming the downtown Brooklyn waterfront into a civic space. Plans include a bicycle path, restored marshland, 3 playing fields, basketball, handball, volleyball and tennis courts, an in-line hockey rink, playgrounds, open lawns, and 12 acres of safe paddling waters will be created for kayaks, rowboats, and other water sports; and the park will include fishing piers and a marina.
