Tour: Henry Miller's Theater
July 7th at 124 West 43rd Street

Join us for a tour of New York City’s first theater to pursue LEED Certification. Built behind the restored façade of the original 1918 theater, Henry Miller’s Theater uses environmentally friendly practices and technologies including 95% air filtration, waterless urinals, and recycled, low-emitting, and locally sourced materials. In addition to its sustainable features, the reconstruction has increased the handicapped and overall seating capacity of the theater, enhanced the acoustics, added new cafes and a restaurant and (perhaps most importantly) increased the number of bathroom stalls for women. Details here.

Tour: Teardrop Park
July 14th in Battery Park City

The desire to build and operate a sustainable public park influenced every aspect of Teardrop Park’s development, from material selection to contractor practices. Environmental aspects of the park’s design include fully organic soils and maintenance regimes that don’t rely on pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. Treated and recycled greywater from the adjacent LEED Gold-Certified Solaire Building and stormwater runoff from the site captured in an underground storage pipe supply all of the park’s irrigation needs. Details here.
