High Performance Building Salon: Co-Gen Plants - Combined Heat & Power for Individual Buildings in New York January 8th at Knoll Showroom Join us for a timely discussion on the potential benefits of “Co-Gen” plants in individual buildings in New York City. Co-generation power plants create electricity like a conventional plant, but make use of waste heat instead of pumping it out of an exhaust flue. In effect, the waste heat becomes a resource used to heat the building and its water supply, greatly increasing energy efficiency. While utility providers like Con Edison have run massive Co-Gen plants for many years, smaller Co-Gen plants for individual buildings are increasingly feasible and popular. 5pm cocktails, 5:30 to 7pm presentation. Read full details and buy tickets.
High Performance Design - The Next Generation January 20th at US Custom House Join us for a panel discussion on the next generation of buildings, which will aim to be carbon neutral, achieve net zero energy, zero water, and zero waste. Enabled by advanced engineering, material ingenuity, and lower costs for dynamic building modeling software, 3D imaging and 3D fabrication, these advancements in green building are already changing the markets. With a panel of experts from urban design, real estate development, local authorities, and green building, this panel will explore the future of high performance design, including innovations such as high rise urban farms, distributed energy generation, and highly adaptable infrastructure. 5pm cocktails, 5:30 to 7pm presentation. Book now.
Sustainable Cities Dialogue: The University as Green Crucible January 27th at Wollmann Hall, The New School The United Nations has declared 2005-2014 the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. Given the university’s primary role in advancing and disseminating knowledge, how quickly is it advancing the integration of environmental awareness into today’s curricula? Will this influx be sufficient to respond to tomorrow’s challenges? Leaders from a variety of institutions will discuss some of the current barriers to advancement, and the long-term opportunities of this approach through examples and on-going projects. 5:30pm cocktails, 6 to 7:30pm presentation. Buy tickets.

The Board of Directors is proposing a revision to the bylaws that would align our bylaw amendment clause with that of the national USGBC and the majority of other non-profit organizations. Currently, the bylaws may only be amended by a vote of the membership with a quorum. The proposed change would also permit the bylaws to be amended with a 2/3 majority vote of the Board of Directors and provide the organization with greater flexibility. This proposed revision to will be put to a vote of the membership in February. Full details available here. Please email us with any comments or suggestions!
