Board Election Results
Thank you to the 2009 Urban Green Council Board of Directors for leading us through another successful year. After an election with exceptional candidates last month, Chris Garvin of Cook+Fox Architects and John Rice of AKF Engineers were re-elected to the board. Lauren Yarmuth of YRG Sustainability Consultants joins the board for a first time, as does Molly Garretson Zinzi, who was elected to a new seat representing Emerging Green Builders. The Board also appointed Paul Fernandes of the Building and Construction Trades Council and Pat Di Filippo of Turner Construction Company.
Thanks to outgoing Board members Om Taneja of the General Services Administration, Susan M. Kaplan of HLW International, and Steven Piguet of Sustainable Design Consulting for their years of dedication and service.
TONIGHT: Energy Code Changes - What the Design Team Needs to Know, Continued

The NYC Department of Buildings now requires that all projects submitted for approval include calculations to demonstrate compliance with the NYS Energy Code. A group of experts selected by Urban Green, NY Department of Buildings, AIA-NY, and ASHRAE-NY disseminate their knowledge of the NYS Energy Code and clarify Energy Code submittal requirements for all projects in NYC. 1st Wednesday Technical Roundtable: Lighting Retrofits Feb 3rd at Bovis
Utilizing Goshow Architects’ new office as a case study, the program provides attendees with a great opportunity to learn how to improve energy efficiency in existing commercial buildings in compliance with Mayor Bloomberg’s proposed Greener Greater Buildings Plan. Green Building Design & Maintenance: The LEED Implementation Process (BD+C) Feb 5th at Pfizer
This workshop is intended for professionals who are familiar with the basic concepts of the LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations Rating System, but new to implementing it on projects or looking to brush up on implementation best practices. It is appropriate for new LEED APs, as well as those pursuing GBCI's LEED AP Building Design + Construction credential. This workshop provides 7 GBCI CE Hours, the continuing education credits needed by LEED APs who want to specialize. This 4-hour course is designed for those seeking a technical introduction to green building design and the implementation of LEED 2009. Study Calls for Phase-Out of #6 and #4 Heating Oil Environmental Defense, with major input from Urban Green, has issued a study delineating the damage being done by #4 and #6 oil used for heating in NYC and showing that a phase out is both desirable and technically and economically feasible.
