Description: YRG is seeking a Senior Building Energy Consultant to support our green building work on new and existing building projects. The candidate will work with YRG staff and project teams to help optimize project designs with regard to energy efficiency and renewable energy. This will involve providing design guidance related to building orientation, massing, passive solar design, shell design, lighting systems, HVAC systems, and renewable energy options. The candidate will also perform energy modeling for projects and provide guidance to other YRG energy modelers. Ideally, the candidate will be able to conduct facility walk through audits and provide recommendations for existing building projects. Knowledge of the ASHRAE-90.1 energy codes is a must, while knowledge of and experience with the LEED green building rating systems is preferred but not required.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have an energy or mechanical engineering background and have significant experience (at least 3 years) working in a related field (building science, MEP, etc.). The candidate should have knowledge of building energy systems (shell, lighting, HVAC, controls) and efficiency measures, and be self-sufficient (i.e. can work without oversight and guidance) on at least one LEED-compliant energy modeling software package (e.g. eQuest). The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and modeling skills, as well as strong communication skills, and be both willing and able to support project teams in all aspects of building design. Additional preferred technical knowledge and experience could include:

  • Daylight design, including glare, contrast, light levels, lighting controls, etc.
  • RemDesign energy modeling for residential applications
  • Carbon footprint and baseline analysis
  • Life cycle analysis
  • Renewable energy technologies and analytical models
  • Building commissioning and retro-commissioning
  • Direct experience with the LEED-EB Rating System
  • Cost-benefit analyses
  • LEED rating system requirements and protocols
Lastly, the successful candidate should exhibit strong time management, organizational, and presentation skills; be flexible to changes in deadlines and work focus; and be highly self-motivated. This position will require working independently as well as closely with other staff members and members of multiple client project teams.
