Catherine Shawn Internships

Urban Green Council's summer internship program honors the life and accomplishments of Catherine Shawn. Catherine was passionate about environmental issues and an inspiration to New York's green building movement.

She set up Go2Buildings.com, a website for architects, builders, and suppliers interested in environmentally friendly building design and operations, and was the founder of the High Performance Buildings Salon - which quickly became the New York-based green building professional's leading forum for staying current, sharing ideas, and networking. As the Salon's custodian, Urban Green Council celebrates Catherine's legacy by making our interns integral members of our office.

While working on projects like our Annual Fall Gala, our Green Codes Task Force, and assisting with our website and membership database, interns gain a strong grasp of both green building and non-profit work. These unpaid positions last for three months, and part-time internships are available throughout the year.

People with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; recent graduate in environmental studies, engineering, law, or a related field preferred
  • Understanding of green building and environmental issues
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Mac literacy, proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Photoshop
  • Knowledge of html and CMS
  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others
  • Strong organizational skills
Please email us your resume, a brief cover letter, and references.
